Coping Mechanisms

21 Apr 2026

IVF can be one of the most emotional and physically demanding experiences a couple may go through. It often brings hope, uncertainty, excitement, and disappointment, sometimes all at once. During this time, it’s completely normal for partners to cope differently. One person may want to talk things through, while the other may need time and space to process. These differences can make communication challenging, even in the strongest relationships. Understanding each other’s coping mechanisms and learning how to support one another can make a meaningful difference, helping couples feel more connected and resilient throughout the journey.

In this video, Jackie Stewart, our independent fertility counsellor, shares insights into coping mechanisms and how it can help couples navigate treatment together. Finding support outside of appointments and connecting with others can make the journey feel less overwhelming.

Jackie hosts monthly support groups that provide a safe, welcoming space to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and connect with others who truly understand what you’re going through. Whether you’re looking for reassurance, practical advice, or simply a place to listen, these sessions can help you feel less alone and more supported. We warmly encourage you to watch the video, explore the support available, and consider joining a future session.
