Starting your fertility journey
Fertility testing options
When you and your partner begin thinking about starting a family together, the first step is understanding your fertility health as a couple. Fertility testing offers valuable insights and provides peace of mind. It can guide your decisions about whether to start your family now or consider options for preserving your fertility for the future.
At Bourn Hall, we offer dedicated fertility testing tailored to male same-sex couples. Our tests are simple, straightforward and designed to give you clear, reliable insights into your fertility health.
Sperm testing provides a comprehensive overview of your fertility. A semen sample can be collected either at home or in a private space at our clinic. Our specialists then analyse the sample to assess the sperm count, movement and shape.
If any irregularities are detected, our team will explain your results in plain, supportive language and guide you through the next steps.

Fertility treatments
Building a family as a male same-sex couple may feel like a complex journey, but with the right fertility treatment and compassionate guidance, parenthood is entirely possible.
You’ll need donor eggs, which can come from either a known or anonymous donor. Our team will guide you through both options with care and sensitivity. If you choose an anonymous donor, we can help you find the right match through our trusted and carefully regulated egg donor programme.
The donor eggs are fertilised through in vitro fertilisation (IVF), using either your or your partner’s sperm. Once the embryos are ready, they are transferred to a surrogate, who will carry the pregnancy on your behalf.
We’ll support you every step of the way, from choosing your donor and treatment pathway to understanding the legal and emotional aspects of the process.
Private IVF treatment
A treatment where eggs are fertilised by sperm in a lab, then transferred to the womb, offering hope to individuals or couples facing difficulties conceiving naturally.
IVF with Donor Embryos
A treatment involving the creation and use of embryos from frozen eggs and sperm, providing future opportunities for pregnancy and family building through advanced reproductive technology.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Sometimes conventional IVF needs a helping hand. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a lab technique that may be appropriate for you, if your sperm needs a bit of extra help to achieve successful fertilisation.
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
A fertility treatment where sperm is placed directly into the womb during ovulation, helping to increase the likelihood of sperm reaching and fertilising an egg.
Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A)
A screening method used during IVF to check embryos for chromosomal abnormalities, helping to select the healthiest embryos for transfer, enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
